Anaplastic Astrocytoma is a rare brain cancer present in a malignant brain tumor.  Although sometimes treatable, Anaplastic Astrocytoma was inoperable for Philip Johnson.  In his incredible story, Johnson persevered through the terminal illness and survived Anaplastic Astrocytoma (brain cancer).

Philip Johnson joined the United States Navy as a Gunnery Officer in 2006, after graduating from the United States Naval Academy.  Until 2008, the Gunnery Officer served aboard USS Vella Gulf (CG 72).  During his first role in the Navy, Johnson earned various qualifications, including Surface Warfare Officer and Officer of the Deck (Navigator).  In 2008, he was promoted to the role of FIre Control Officer aboard USS IWO IMA (LHD 7).
